Win Tickets to the Festival Show!
Melbourne will again host the fourth annual Australian Tap Dance Festival (ATDF) from September 26 – October 2 with the closing concert show aptly named Rhythm is our Business.
The Australian Tap Dance Festival is about bringing the tap community and public together to learn, share, meet and enjoy all things tap. The festival selects a high-calibre faculty from Australia and around the world to conduct one jam-packed week of tap masterclasses, 5 day choreography residencies, and special events, ensuring there is something for everyone!
This year’s guest artists are Christine Denny, Glenn Wood, Shane Preston, Bill Simpson, Ben Read, Thomas Wadelton, Sean Robinson, Winston Morrison, Darren Disney and international guest artist, Ted Louis Levy.
There are masterclasses and choreography residences for beginners to advanced levels as well as a free beginner class. There are public events to watch including the Tap Dance Film Night, Jam Night with live musicians, Cutting Contest, Capezio Dance Off and of course, the main Festival Concert – Rhythm is our Business.
For one night only, this is a unique opportunity to experience the sights and sounds of top shelf tap including international Emmy Award winner, Tony Award nominee, song and dance entertainer, Ted Louis Levy.
Levy was celebrated as one of America’s premier Tap Dance artists in the production Ted Levy and Friends, directed by Broadway and tap film legend Gregory Hines. Since then he has grown as a leader of the artform through his work on stage, TV and film including Miss Saigon, Mikado, My One & Only and work with the Nicholas Brothers, Rochester Philhamonic Orchestra and Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra.
The show will also feature the cream of Australian tap with original members of Tap Dogs, Hot Shoe Shuffle, Red Hot Rhythm, Tap Pack as well as Melbourne’s first all female tap group, Footnotes. In addition to their solos (some of which will be backed by live band!) their ensemble choreography will be showcased by up and coming tap dancers from around Australia and New Zealand.
Rhythm is our Business will excite the audience with its distinctive range of contemporary and classical tap choreography. The speed, energy, agility and astonishing style will captivate viewers as they indulge in the rich world of rhythm and live music.
