AWARD WINNING MUSICAL COMES TO SYDNEY

The controversial Broadway musical Spring Awakening will be staged in Australia next year, with the Sydney Theatre Company to present the show from early February.
A national tour is possible, but not confirmed.
Geordie Brookman will direct the production, which is likely to play at the Sydney Theatre.
Spring Awakening won the 2007 Tony Award for Best Musical – one of eight Tonys it took home that year – and takes its inspiration from one of the most controversial plays of all time.
Set in Germany in the late 19th century, it concerns teenagers who are discovering the inner and outer tumult of sexuality. The original play was banned in Germany due to its portrayal of masturbation, abortion, rape and suicide.
The musical has a rock theme.
