stunning acrobatics and water antics abound in this refreshingly fun, exciting and sexy show…physically breathtaking – Time Out London
Dazzling, daring and dangerous, eight acrobats will perform in, on and around a series of bathtubs in the Australian premiere of the late-night variety show Soap.
Fresh from Edinburgh via London and Berlin, this splashing spectacle has captured the hearts of half a million people worldwide, but has been recut to emphasise its sensual and sexual side, especially for the Sydney Opera House’s Summer at the House.
Directed by Markus Pabst (Caesar Twins, La Clique) and Maximilian Rambaek (VibeZ), Soap’s highly charged fusion of new circus, comedy and cabaret set in the confines of a bathroom will steam up Sydney audiences for a limited season this January.
After two years at the Chamäleon Theater in Berlin and London’s Riverside Studios, Soap played to packed houses at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival earlier this year.
With a pumping soundtrack of pop, blues and rock, the delicious cast of characters take turns to perform a stunning series of water-soaked acts to an eclectic soundtrack that includes the music of Mika, Sia, Tool, Gnarls Barkley and Goldfrapp. There’s also Soap’s very own live diva, Lithuanian opera singer Lina Navakaite.
From contortion and straps to trapeze and aerial silk, the show includes moments of divine beauty – a captivating gymnastic performance on a bath ledge – to a humorous love story between two feet.
A truly cleansing theatrical experience, Soap demonstrates the beauty and strength of the human form.
