Kinky Boots
Noteable Theatre Company
The musical spectacular Kinky Boots, from the iconic pop prowess of Cyndi Lauper and the Tony award– winning writing of Harvey Fierstein, will be strutting into the Concourse Theatre from March 3 for a strictly limited season.
Based on the 2005 film inspired by a true story, the musical Kinky Boots follows Charlie Price (Jacen Bennett), who has to give up his dreams of a career and life in London to save his late father’s business, a bankrupt shoe factory in Northampton.
Struggling to salvage the business and discover a new market for shoe production, Charlie finds an unexpected muse in the form of Lola (Lindford Gilmore), a fabulous drag queen who poses an interesting idea to create kinky boots for men who like to dress as women. As Charlie and Lola work to turn the factory around, this unlikely pair finds that sometimes our differences unite us, and when you come together, anything is possible.
Kinky Boots is one of the highest-grossing Broadway shows of all time, winning 6 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Score for Lauper. The West End production earned 3 Olivier Awards, among other accolades.
Resident director Rod Herbert said “This musical means a lot to many people; the underlying story of acceptance goes straight to the heart. The music and the characters are infectious and joyful, and the message you leave with is to be who you want to be; never let them tell you who you ought to be, so important in today’s society.”
“Kinky Boots is a classic story that celebrates both inclusivity and uniqueness with a stellar musical score by the one and only Cyndi Lauper. I think this piece is the perfect musical to accompany Sydney World Pride festivities, and I can’t wait for our audiences to experience it for themselves.”
Noteable Theatre Company President, James McAtamney, said “We are thrilled to bring this Tony-Award-winning musical to the Concourse in Chatswood during Sydney’s World Pride festivities. The show’s powerful themes of acceptance and perseverance make so relevant and notto-be-missed production.”
The upcoming Noteable Theatre Company production will be a new interpretation of the piece featuring energetic dance numbers choreographed by Tracey Rasmussen, vibrant costumes designed by Ingrid Lecaros and Carina Herbert and a live orchestra led by James McAtamney.
Kinky Boots will have audiences dancing in the aisles and discovering why, sometimes, the best way to fit in… is to stand out!
