A closer look at the repertoire…
La Favorita is the ideal way to raise the curtain on the Celebration Gala. This exuberant pas de deux was especially created originally for David McAllister and Elizabeth Toohey, who shared a long partnership at The Australian Ballet, first as dancers and then as Artistic Director and Ballet Mistress. Don’t miss this beloved party piece that has toured the world to great acclaim.
Lovers of classical showpieces will delight in not one but two excerpts from Swan Lake. The haunting, yearning White Swan Pas de Deux, taken from Act II of Swan Lake, has become synonymous with classical ballet. The dramatic Black Swan Pas de Deux (taken from Act III) will follow in sharp contrast, culminating in a series of 32 fouetté turns.
The culmination of Clara’s magical journey to the Land of Sweets is this majestic pas de deux from Act II of The Nutcracker for the Sugarplum Fairy and the Nutcracker Prince. One of the most famous pas de deux in the classical ballet world, it is set to the grand escalations of Tchaikovsky’s score, which is considered one of his most inventive achievements.
Plus so much more, including pas de deux from classic favourite The Merry Widow, the highly-anticipated Anna Karenina, and contemporary pieces After the Rain, Concerto, Chroma and Clay.
