Cinderella | Melbourne City Youth Ballet

Young Ballet Dancers perform ‘Cinderella’

Melbourne City Youth Ballet, Victoria’s youth ballet performance company, will perform Cinderella as the first of its three seasons for this year from 28th – 29th February 2016 at Darebin Arts Centre.
Cinderella is a two-hour classical ballet featuring 45 of Victoria’s most prominent young ballet dancers, aged between 10 and 18 years old, who travel each Sunday to Melbourne City Ballet’s new studios in Coburg to rehearse.
The production features entirely new choreography created by Artistic Director Yuiko Masukawa with the assistance of Melbourne City Ballet’s Artistic Director Michael Pappalardo and youth company Ballet Mistress Kealy Fouracre. Audiences can expect to see a beautiful rendition of Cinderella, performed by young artist Jessica Ford, with beautiful costumes designed by PW Dance & Sportswear lavish sets created by in-house artist Natasha Pappalardo.
This not-for-profit program provides unique opportunities for some of Victoria’s strongest dancers, who are given the opportunity to work together in a company environment to create full classical ballet works with others of the same calibre. Over the past 12 months the program has become increasingly competitive, with dance schools from across Victoria sending their finest young students to audition, not only to further develop their child’s performance skills but also showcase the high quality of their own school’s students.
This also includes students from training institutions such as VCASS (Victorian College of the Arts Secondary College) and Melbourne City Ballet’s Elite Training Program. Former young dancers within the program have moved onto training positions with the Australian Ballet School, VCASS (Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School) and Melbourne City Ballet Elite Programs.
“It is such a pleasure to work with the next generation of Australia’s classical ballet performing artists. Seeing how far they grow each season whilst developing these new classical works” – Yuiko Masukawa, Melbourne City Youth Ballet (Artistic Director)
“We are honoured to be trusted caring for the students of dance schools across Victoria. These students are proof of the strong work of classical ballet teachers in this state.” – Michael Pappalardo, Melbourne City Ballet (Artistic Director)
