Dusty The Musical
5 – 8 Jun 2025, Concert Hall
Dusty The Musical – In Concert is the celebration and retelling of the extraordinary life and music of British icon, Dusty Springfield, one of pop music’s greatest female stars, whose riveting journey was full of highs, lows, triumph and tragedy.
In the 1960’s, Dusty took the world by storm with her revolutionary sensual soul singing, and for more than sixty years, her music has reached out across generations with a score of hits including I Only Want To Be With You, Wishin’ and Hopin’, The Look of Love, You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me, I Just Don’t Know What to Do With Myself and Son of a Preacher Man.
Dusty, the product of Australian writers John-Michael Howson, David Mitchell and Melvyn Morrow, received rave reviews for both its Australian National Tour in 2006, and again with Melbourne’s Production Company in 2016, with the story of the introverted Londoner, Mary O’Brien, who defies the odds to transform herself to become a legend, synonymous with the 60’s era.
Fresh off the back of the hit musical Juliet, Amy Lehpamer reprises her performance as Dusty Springfield; and this semi-staged reimagining will be directed by the esteemed Jason Langley from Sydney, alongside Melbourne choreographer Michael Ralph, who both jumped at the chance to bring this beauty back to life for Brisbane audiences, nine years after their brilliant work on the smash hit.
Managing Director and Producer Hayley Johnson said bringing Dusty The Musical – In Concert, back to life was an easy decision.
“It’s not just a show; it’s a celebration of resilience, passion, and the timeless power of music. Dusty’s story still resonates today—hers is a journey of triumph and self-discovery.
“Her music, which crosses boundaries of soul, pop, and R&B, continues to resonate with people today. As a ground-breaking artist she faced challenges on gender, sexuality and societal expectations.
Dusty’s ability to break through the constraints of her time, her courage in expressing vulnerability, and her impact on music and culture make her story not only relevant but also inspirational for today’s audience.
Dusty The Musical – In Concert will showcase the Swingin’ Sixties in all of its glory – blondes, beehives, fashionistas in shimmering gowns, and so many musical hits that we all know and love – backed by a live, onstage band, and conducted by local musical director Brendan Murtagh, with musical supervision by the acclaimed David Young.
