Hot Talent Watch | Eden Petrovski
interview by Nikita Liddell
Another alumni of the Australian edition of SYTYCD, Eden Petrovski has turned her solid training into a successful career as both a performer and teacher. This year she will see her achieve another milestone as she performs in The Dream Dance Company’s third season production choreographed by her original dance inspiration.
We got to know Eden a little better …
Q: How have the last 12 months been for you?
“The last 12 months have been AMAZING! I have been doing a lot of teaching and performing in between that as well, but I’m really looking forward to this year and all the exciting things that are around for me! The last 12 months have been great. I have met so many amazing choreographers, worked with so many AMAZING and incredible students… It’s just been awesome!”
Q: Who do you find is the most influential person in your life?
“I guess for life, my mum has been a really big influence!
“But I’ll never forget the day, when I was 14, I didn’t really know what contemporary dance was and I saw this video of this teacher (it was actually Sarah Boulter) and dancer (Morgan Choice) and at that moment I was like OMG, one day I hope to dance like that and work with Sarah… The next year I ended up training under her and she has been my biggest influence in contemporary dance since I first heard about her.”
Q: If you could choose, what would your one super power be?
“I feel like it would be super strength, like Wonder Woman!”
Q: If you had to describe yourself in 3 words, what would they be?
“In 3 words I would say Generous, Humble and Loves-People”
Q: What would a perfect day look like to you?
“A perfect day to me would look like getting up early to go to the gym… Most of the time I’ll have teaching at a primary school, then I could be teaching Full-Timers somewhere. I could be going off to take a class somewhere myself or rehearsal and then coming home and seeing my family and catching up on a bit of TV.”
Q: Do you have any advice for anyone aspiring to work in the industry?
“Yeah totally, we are so lucky that we are able to do what we love everyday and it really doesn’t feel like work! Just train hard, stay humble… Sometimes It’s not always easy, there are always going to be speed humps along the way but if you just stay true to yourself, you will always find a way to push through and get through on the other side and it is totally worth it! Once you make it through and … nobody’s perfect… but we just strive to get better and better each day and dream bigger!”
Q: What’s in store for you in 2017?
“I’ve got a few exciting things happening, first of all I’ve got work in The Dream Dance Company, directed by Marko Panzic and the choreography is by Sarah Boulter, this year so that’s super exciting! Little things here and there that will be super exciting and hopefully there is more to come as well.”
