Hip-Hop Meets Video Games in an Inventive Production at The Art House

IN THE ZONE by Shaun Parker & Co.

September 20, 2024

IN THE ZONE is an inventive idea, expertly performed by professional hip-hop dancer Libby Montilla, with the use of electronic percussion technology that operate like video game controllers. Libby controls the sound, lights and movement on the stage and takes audiences on a journey through virtual worlds full of key learnings and internal discoveries.

Full of funny moments and wicked dancing with Libby’s locking, popping, waving, and body-ticking, inspired by the stunning soundscape which includes crunchy electronica, atmospheric strings, funky drum loops and the sounds of birds, ocean waves and nature – all intrinsically linked to Libby’s outstanding body animation and storytelling. This show is perfect for young audiences as they can better relate to Libby as a street performer on their level, rather than an elite dance company.

Shaun Parker & Company have produced a unique production that will hold audiences’ attention and capture their imaginations, with video gaming being the key focus and escapism the inspiration., Audiences can expect to walk away with is the insight that they have more control over their internal and external environment than they think they do.

Speaking to the values of The Art House, IN THE ZONE reaches more resilient youth by making them feel seen and represented on the stage. It appeals to the young and young at heart and will encourage others to see the arts as more than entertainment, but an avenue for imagination, inspiration and communication.

Taking place in The Art House Studio, space is limited so make sure to get tickets for the whole family, as everyone will enjoy this one.
