Interview by Chris Duncan

Chris Duncan had the pleasure of sharing the inspiring journey of Jackie Chambers, a dynamic and versatile dancer who is set to dazzle audiences in the newest Australian production of Burn The Floor. Jackie’s story is one of passion, perseverance, and an unyielding dedication to her craft.

A Journey of Versatility and Passion

Jackie’s journey into the professional dance world began at Ettingshausens Pro, where she completed a full-time course that ignited her love for diverse dance genres. “After finishing my training at Ettingshausens Pro full-time course, I grew a love for all genres outside of contemporary and began to take more interest in the commercial industry,” Jackie recalls. Her relentless pursuit of versatility saw her diving into various styles, from jazz and technique to Latin fusion and immersive cabaret. This broad skill set not only honed her craft but also paved the way for her current adventure with Burn The Floor.

Embracing New Challenges

For Jackie, the upcoming tour with Burn The Floor is both an exciting opportunity and a formidable challenge. “To master any kind of authentic ballroom and Latin-based movement next to experienced ballroom couples will be a challenge for sure, but I’m so keen to jump in and learn from the experts themselves,” she shares. Her enthusiasm for learning and growing as a dancer is truly inspiring.

In preparing for the tour, Jackie emphasizes the importance of mental and physical readiness. “I am training when I can but I’ll be taking a vacation overseas prior to make sure I’m mentally and physically rested for the big journey ahead!” This holistic approach to preparation underscores the balance needed to excel in the demanding world of professional dance.

Anticipation …

Jackie’s excitement about the upcoming performances is palpable. “I am so keen to be in the studio and on stage with an entire cast of phenomenal performers and movers that I have not danced with before!” she exclaims. This enthusiasm is not just about the performance but about the camaraderie and the collaborative spirit that Burn The Floor is renowned for. Her words serve as a reminder of the joy and fulfillment that comes from working with a passionate and talented team.

Words of Wisdom for Aspiring Dancers

Jackie’s advice for aspiring dancers is both simple and profound: “Listen to your gut. Intuitively trusting my own creative, stylistic, and performance choices has been the greatest help!” Her journey underscores the importance of self-belief and the courage to follow one’s instincts. For those looking to join a professional dance company, Jackie’s story is a beacon of inspiration, highlighting the importance of versatility, dedication, and staying true to oneself.
