NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres said “The 60th Anniversary production of My Fair Lady has been a huge success for Sydney, breaking box office records and attracting visitors who contributed an estimated $7 million in overnight visitor expenditure for NSW. I congratulate all involved and am delighted in the role the NSW Government has played in securing the production and to see that it will return to Sydney next year.”
Producer Lyndon Terracini, the Artistic Director of Opera Australia, said “The ongoing success of this 60th Anniversary production of My Fair Lady has been a remarkable achievement for all involved. It’s been quite exhilarating to watch its popularity soar, so we’re delighted to be bringing it back to Sydney for all those who missed it the first time around, or those who loved it and are keen to see it again.”
This production of My Fair Lady celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the musical which took the world by storm, telling the tale of a Cockney flower girl named Eliza Doolittle whose world was forever changed by the brilliant and demanding phoneticist, Professor Henry Higgins. The clash of cultures sparks some of theatre’s most witty dialogue and wonderful songs.
