Gideon Obarzanek will Facilitate Force Majeure’s Dance Theatre Intensive in November
Applications Close June 10
INCITE Intensive is Force Majeure’s professional dance theatre program for mid-career and established artists and it will continue in November 2019 with renowned choreographer and director Gideon Obarzanek announced as the Guest Artist.
The two week-long, full time program, led by Force Majeure’s Artistic Director Danielle Micich, offers invaluable training in the company’s devising process. it is open to mid-career artists from all performing arts disciplines and applications close June 10th.
After many years of experience as a maker, performer and mentor, Danielle Micich has spent the last four years developing and refining INCITE Intensive. The program provides artists with the requisite tools to maintain their practice and hone their creation process as dance theatre makers. It is specifically geared towards performers from multi or inter-disciplinary backgrounds who work with both text and movement. The training prepares the artist, physically and mentally, with an understanding of how to work within the art form of dance theatre.
Gideon is a renowned director, choreographer, performing arts curator and performer, and is founding Artistic Director of Chunky Move.
Danielle and Gideon will be joined by Charmian Gradwell, the voice and text coach at Sydney Theatre Company, who will lead some sessions during the Intensive.
“Now in our third year of INCITE, I can see how directly it sparks inspiration and a chance for artists to refine and expand their practice in a rigorous and supportive environment,” Danielle said. “I look forward to working with Gideon and Charmian, who bring extraordinary expertise and a deep respect for artists and their work to program. There is no other program like INCITE in Australia.”
The INCITE Intensive, presented in partnership with Carriageworks, will take place over two weeks from 4 to 15 November 2019.
Theatre and dance makers, performers, directors, writers and designers who are seeking a deeper understanding of integrating voice, text and movement in their practice are encouraged to apply. The two week-long, small group intensive will focus on three key components in the process of devising dance theatre: training, improvisation and creation.
INCITE Intensive is open to professional dancers, actors and makers with demonstrated industry experience and an existing practice.
