Peats Ridge Arts & Culture Manager – Vic Johnstone says: “Peats Ridge is a massive celebration of art and culture. We’ve got bold, interactive and engaging artists to be part of the experience this year. We’ve uncovered some new and inspiring works to create the eclectic festival experience our fans come back for year on year,” she says. “All sorts of arts and cultural experiences make up the Festival – we’ve commissioned massive art installations, kooky themed venues, multimedia activations, theatre, cabaret, comedy, even a giant trapeze.”
The Festival is an opportunity to get out there and try out new and exciting experiences. Head into the workshop space for a dance or yoga class, or a fun group drumming session. The Peats markets are also an unmissable part of the Festival; some of the best retailers from around the country will set up shop and peddle anything from vintage clothing, to fair trade coffee and tea, beautiful jewellery and fisherman’s pants (a Festival must-have).
Away from the music stages, the arts program is as much the star of the show as the amazing line-up of bands. This year there will be a brand new theatre, a giant trapeze show, guerrilla projections, interactive installations, and dance and cabaret shows.
Unwind and recharge on your Peats Ridge getaway. Bring along your own camping gear, or rent a roomy and comfortable tepee in our sustainable Tepee Life Village, a mere walking distance away from the music and activities of the Festival. You will be surrounded by the Valley’s beautiful tea trees and an idyllic fresh water stream that you can take a quick dip in to cool off from the afternoon heat.
Wander away from the hubbub for a while and relax in the lush, silk-lined Chai Temple, a retreat complete with soothing cups of chai, treats and acoustic music to take you far away. Then come back down to Earth at Healing Haven, a riverside sanctuary offering yoga, meditation, sound healing and workshops. There is no better way to come into the New Year with a refreshed body, mind and soul, and here is where you will be transformed.
As a sustainable festival, Peats Ridge aims to be as kind to the environment as possible, with a waste management system designed to leave as little impact as possible to the beautiful surrounds of Glenworth Valley. Make sure to also visit the Eco-Living area for practical advice and hands-on activities to learn how you can live a more sustainable lifestyle when you return home.
Naturally, the Festival is all set to throw the ultimate party. This year the Festival will be counting down to midnight on New Years Eve with The John Butler Trio, as well as American soul band Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings who together will provide a New Years soundtrack you’ll remember for many years to come.
Like Womadelaide and Byron Bay Roots and Blues rolled into one, Peats Ridge Sustainable Arts and Music Festival is the ultimate getaway and an alternative way to spend New Years in Australia. The event offers festivities and activities suitable for all ages, and you are welcome to invite friends and family to ring in the New Year surrounded by good vibes, happy faces, great music and the stunning river and bush of Glenworth Valley.
The Peats Ridge Festival is supported by the NSW Government through the Destination NSW Regional Tourism Partnership Program.
