Six The Musical

This Show is A Must See!

The evening started with that WOW VIBE of energy! The moment you arrived at the theatre there was a buzz in the air. The foyer was alive with an essence of excitement and enthusiasm pre show and from the moment the lights revealed the amazing cast, there was an abundance of applause and cheers that filled the auditorium.

Six is back in Sydney again playing at The Theatre Royal and is undeniably bigger and better than ever. The appreciation the audience has for this show is so obvious, just as was the love that filled the room throughout the whole performance.

Written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, who is also a Co-Director along side Jamie Armitage and Associate Director, Sharon Millerchip, this cleverly depicted story of King Henry VIII and his wives has turned into a ‘pop musical culture’ sensation, entertaining audiences all over the world. The then Cambridge University students had the idea and developed the concept back in 2017 when they had a slot with the Edinburgh Fringe to fill with an original musical.

A year later Six made its debut in London, beginning it’s sold out residency and by just 2019 Six was nominated for 5 Oliver Awards including Best Musical. Six then begin its US tour and first hit our Ozzie shores in January 2020.

Produced by a team of incredible visionaries Louise Withers, Michael Coppel, Linda Bewick, Kenny Wax, Wendy and Andy Barnes and George Stiles along with Executive Producer, Philippa Gowen, this musical is like no other before. It’s like you have attended a pop concert from the 15th Century. The magnificent artists have you on the edge of your seats with incredible charismatic energy, talented vocals and engaging stories.

With a huge influence of iconic Pop Music, Six was born to enhance the story of these powerful woman from 500 years or so ago, bringing to it humour and a different perception on the six queens sharing their own experiences of that time with a modern approach.

What is even more appealing is the energetics of absolute girl power with the entire on stage company being female and the theme of unity and appreciation of truth delivered at its best.

The cast are truly exceptional with such incredibly talented voices and energy that screams pop sensations along with the embodiment of their unique characters sharing their stories with such dedication and passion. Catherine of Argon played by Kimberley Hodgson, Anne Boleyn played by Deidre KhooJane Seymour played by Loren Hunter, Anna of Cleves played by Zelia Rose Kitoko, Katherine Howard played by Chelsea Dawson and Catherine Parr played by Giorgia Kennedy are powerful individuals. Yet it’s in the united front that the magic is fully unleashed. They are all truly phenomenal and seriously will leave you wanting more.

The performance is sleek and engaging keeping you focused and in awe of these talented beauties.

The music is indeed a highlight with catching, powerful songs. The ladies in waiting who make up the musicians are a definite force of talent.

Music Director and on Keys is Claire Healy alongside Assistant Music Director and also on Keys, Heidi Maguire. On Drums is Kathryn Stammers, Guitar is Danielle Colligan and on Bass, Ann Metry.

You will be tapping those toes and fully immersed in the music during this performance.

The costumes are stunning and are tailored by Costume Designer, Gabriella Slide along with Associate Costume Designer, Nigel Shaw. They accentuate the authenticity of each character while combining the energies of the group in such an impact fun way. Absolute Diva Stylre is showcased here.

Set design is simple, elegant with a modern twist that compliments the pop group and concert theme. Indeed a credit to the Scene and Set Designer, Emma Bailey. The whole production including the lighting and sound truly only enhance the performance and leave you feeling like you’ve been treated to the most empowering and uplifting night. Lighting Design is by Tim Deiling with Associate Lighting Designer, Jason Fripp and the incredible sound design by a team including Sound Designer, Paul Gatehouse, International Associate Sound Designer, Charlie Smith and Associate Sound Designer, David Tonion.

The music is next level and the performance will certainly leave you feeling inspired and impacted. The Choreography from Carrie-Anne Ingrouille and Resident Choreographer and Swing, Christina D’Agostino along with International Associate Choreographer, Freya Sands is slick, precise and tight. It’s truly flawless and delivered in such an organic way that engages you from start to finish.

This show is a must see!
