From seven years in CATS to seven deadly SINS
Melbourne based choreographer Adrian Ricks is no stranger to the stage. A graduate of Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, RICKS made his professional dance debut in the role of Mr. Mistofelees for the World Tour, Asia and the Australian Tours of CATS the musical. Performing the role for over seven years, RICKS also boasts the longest performance run without a break with a whopping 330 performances back to back.
RICKS along with local dance producers Chris Curran & Paul Malek (Collaboration the Project) are bringing a brand new contemporary dance work to the Theatre Works stage in September. This world premier dance work, simply titled SINS, was created by Ricks during his time in CATS, and after three years of grueling workshops is finally reaching the stage.
“I wanted to create a piece that took a provocative look at life and the experiences that we face. The whole concept is based around the seven deadly sins, with each of the seven dancers having a specific sin that they portray.” says RICKS.
“The show’s got everything; Sex, love, lust, gorgeous girls, twinks, big muscles & even a sauna scene!” remarks RICKS with a cheeky twinkle in his eye.
Featuring original music by Anthony Costanzo and an impeccable cast featuring DIANA RICKS, BRITTANY PAGE, ASHLEIGH PERRIE, CRISTINA D’AGOSTINO, BRODIE CHESHER, JEFFREY TRINIDAD, JAYDEN HICKS, JAKOB AMBROSE & ADRIAN RICKS, this production is a must see!
ABOUT ADRIAN RICKS:
Adrian was born in Melbourne and began dancing at the age of four under the tuition of Tania Attard (Attitudes Dance Studio) and later at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, graduating in 2002. His professional stage debut was at the tender age of 8, in the play `An Inspector Calls’ at the Comedy Theatre, Melbourne (with the Royal Theatre of Great Britain) in the lead child role.
When Adrian finished secondary school he was immediately offered the role of Coricopat in the South Korea Tent Top tour of CATS. He then took on the role of Mr. Mistofelees for the World Tour, Asia and the Australian Tour, performing over seven years to rave reviews. In his final year with CATS, Adrian also took on the additional role of Dance Captain.
Following his dream of creating his own work, he conceptualised, directed and choreographed his first full length dance work, ‘Release’ which was presented in 2011 at Gasworks Theatre. His highly anticipated second work ‘SINS’ premieres at Theatre Works in St Kilda, September 2013.
Adrian is a much loved and sought after dance teacher/choreographer, and works at leading full-time dance institutions, Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance, Dance World Studios, Patrick Studios Australia and Michelle Slater Performing Arts Studio.
